Dunedin
August 20, 2020
After being released from quarantine I was able to fly straight to Dunedin in the South Island. This was lucky because Auckland, where I was in quarantine, had gone into a level 3 lockdown a few days before.
Dunedin is famous for its prestigious Otago University, which takes up a good chunk of land right in the city centre and gives the whole place a bit of an intellectual feel.
Right next to Dunedin is the Otago Peninsular, where my cousin Davinia lives. The peninsular is sparsely popluated and boasts stunning scenery. It’s a haven for seals, sea lions and albatross.
Emerson’s, one of New Zealand’s many craft breweries, is based here and we visited a couple of times for some really tasty beers. They also do a mean mac ‘n’ cheese.
